Düsseldorf, Germany, 26 August 2025 – Harz Guss Zorge GmbH (HGZ), a leading German foundry specialising in complex cast iron components, has joined Metalshub, the digital procurement platform for the metals and mining industry. This move marks a strategic step in HGZ’s effort to streamline its sourcing processes and unlock cost efficiencies in the procurement of primary materials.
Founded in 1870 and headquartered in Walkenried, Göttingen in Lower Saxony, Germany, HGZ produces core-intensive, high-precision components such as cylinder heads, turbocharger housings, and axle parts. With nearly 450 employees, the company serves prominent clients in commercial vehicles, energy systems, agricultural machinery, and mechanical engineering. Following its acquisition in 2024 by U.S. investor Hugh Aiken from GMH Gruppe, HGZ has continued to modernise its operations, with digital procurement as a key lever for value creation.
By integrating Metalshub’s procurement solution, HGZ now sources critical raw materials via a streamlined, auction-based process, including ferroalloys, recarburisers, and copper. This approach reduces administrative workload and ensures supplier competitiveness and diversification.
“With Metalshub, we’ve gained the ability to onboard new, vetted suppliers rapidly, run competitive auctions, and focus more on strategic supplier management, an essential step toward achieving sustainable cost savings in a volatile raw materials market.”
Metalshub’s platform enables HGZ to access a broad network of qualified suppliers, simplify complex procurement workflows, and ensure transparency throughout the negotiation and purchasing lifecycle. Using structured digital tenders and dynamic auctions, HGZ can systematically benchmark supplier offers, reduce sourcing lead times, and avoid dependencies on single suppliers. This transition reflects a broader shift in the metals industry, where procurement teams adopt digital tools to reduce costs, strengthen supply chain resilience, and improve decision-making through data-driven insights.
“We are pleased to welcome HGZ to the Metalshub network,” said Dr. Sebastian Kreft, Co-Founder and Managing Director at Metalshub. “Their decision to digitise sourcing for key input materials reflects a forward-thinking approach to procurement, one that balances cost-efficiency, risk management, and operational agility. We look forward to supporting HGZ in achieving greater transparency and value across their supply chain.”
