Our story
We founded Metalshub in London in 2016, out of frustration with the way our industry operated.
We saw how cumbersome, inefficient, and opaque the buying and selling of raw materials was. A world of scattered spreadsheets, telephone calls, mediated market intelligence and very little visibility.
By serving the status quo it served only the very few. Increasing risk. Restricting opportunity and profitability. And stifling innovation where it could have most positive impact.
Digital technologies had transformed other industries, and so many parts of our lives. It was easier to track a pizza order costing 12 Euros than a metals deal involving millions.
So, we set out to change things. Building software solutions that would transform processes, empower users and deliver better commercial outcomes for more people.

How it started
Chapter 1 was an “Amazon for Metals”, that would make business between producers and consumers more direct and transparent. So we launched a digital trading platform so that everyone could trade with everyone in a convenient and safe way.
But we didn’t stop there. As we grew from two to many, we identified more opportunities and applications for software to improve the way things are done. Across all categories, across the globe, and throughout the entire metals and mining supply chain.
We believe digital solutions will transform metals and mining, empowering more participants to unlock more value, and build a more efficient and sustainable future for the whole industry.
From the Iron Age to the age of silicon, metals have advanced technology. Technology can now repay that debt, by advancing metals in turn.
Our founders
Dr. Sebastian Kreft
Managing Director and Co-Founder
Senior Commercial Manager with more than 10 years of experience in the metals industry. Previous roles include Head of Nickel Sales at Anglo American and Project Leader at the Boston Consulting Group.
Sebastian holds a business degree and Ph.D. from WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management in Germany. Sebastian is married and has a son and a daughter. He is originally from Beckum (Münsterland), a big tennis fan and enjoys spicy food, especially Mexican and Sichuan
