Press Releases

Joining ResponsibleSteel is a key step for Metalshub’s sustainability ambition. Metalshub aims to contribute to a more sustainable steel industry by digitally connecting all involved stakeholders along the steel value chain, encouraging them to take a step further on sustainability and enabling them to measure, manage and reduce their CO2 emissions.

The sustainability expert at Metalshub, Maximilian Hettler, emphasizes: “We at Metalshub have the overarching goal to enable suppliers and steelmakers to effectively collaborate with each other to drive forward the decarbonisation of the steel supply chain. Joining ResponsibleSteel will be a great opportunity for us to support the industry on its sustainability agenda and leverage our digital supply chain solution to do so in an effective, data-driven manner.”

Annie Heaton, CEO of ResponsibleSteel happily welcomed Metalshub as a new associate member: “We are pleased to welcome Metalshub to ResponsibleSteel as an associate member. Metalshub, as one of the leading supply chain software solutions in the metals industry, will significantly contribute to helping us achieve our mission and goals.”

“Operating in the world's largest materials sector, which is responsible for more than 7% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions, ResponsibleSteel represents members from every part of the supply chain for steel. We are collaborating with companies from multinational mining organizations, international steel manufacturers, processors, and end users, as well as civil society, to identify solutions for manufacturing steel responsibly. Having Metalshub on board will enable us to advance our goal of Scope 3 emissions transparency, and support the manufacture of low-carbon steel globally.” - Annie Heaton further added.

Over the past few years, Metalshub has made substantial investments and efforts to further develop its supply chain software to support its users to move further in sustainability. Specifically, the scope 3 CO2 emission information of raw materials is directly integrated into the procurement transaction processes. Thereby, steelmakers have full transparency on their CO2 emissions from procurement and suppliers can leverage their sustainability efforts at the point of sale. Ultimately, this will enable steelmakers to not only measure but also reduce their supply chain emissions by including sustainability in their daily procurement decision-making. As a member of ResponsibleSteel, we have set ambitious targets for supporting our customers to achieve their sustainability goals and encourage them to become ResponsibleSteel certified producers by complying with the ResponsibleSteel International Standard.*

*Currently, Metalshub helps meet the requirements under Principle 3 and Principle 10 out of 13 Principles in the ResponsibleSteel Standard.
