Ferrosilicon (FeSi) producers in the world
Ferrosilicon (FeSi) is an alloy of silicon and iron and is an important additive in the manufacture of steel products. In the following, some of the top producers of Ferrosilicon in 2019 will be listed with the respective amount produced. Moreover, a map with some of the most important production plants will be showcased.
Ferrosilicon is a ferroalloy, an alloy of iron and silicon. It is usually produced in submerged arc furnaces by reduction of silica or quartz sand (SiO2) with coke in presence of iron and usually contains around 75% silicon. Its applications include deoxidizing steel and other ferrous alloys, making it a so-called master alloy in steel production. In terms of end-use, ferrosilicon is mainly used for the production of carbon & other alloy steels, stainless steel, cast iron, and electric steel. Moreover, there is growing demand in the semiconductor and Asian automotive industry for the alloy.
In 2020, the global ferrosilicon market was estimated at US$10.6 billion, with an expected annual growth rate of 0.4% over the period of 2020-2027. The largest markets are the China, Russia, Japan, India, the US, and Europe. The greater Asia-Pacific region is expected to dominate the market in the coming years due to its highly developed construction, coupled with the continuous investments done in the region to advance the automobile and construction sectors through the years.
Below is a map with the location of some of the most important FeSi production plants in the world.
